Make Dreams Real
RI President Dong Kurn Lee
DISTRICT 9820 GOVERNOR
DISTRICT GOVERNOR
Ken McDonald (Margaret)
Rotary Club of Dandenong

Ken has been a member of the Rotary Club of Dandenong since 1985. He was President in 1993/94 and has served on all major committees. At District level he was Assistant Governor to PDG Don Round for Community Service in 1994 and also took that role for PDG Dennis Heslin in the last Rotary year. In 1999 he was named a Paul Harris Fellow.

In 2004 Ken and his wife Margaret were part of a RAWCS team of seven who travelled to the District of Lolotoe, a remote mountainous part of Timor Leste, to build a school in an impoverished village there. In 2005 Ken was chosen to be the Rotary observer with an Interplast team of surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses who travelled to Lae in New Guinea. In 2006 Ken felt privileged when he was chosen to run with the Queens Baton in recognition of his community and Rotary services.

Ken and Margaret have had the pleasure of attending Rotary International Conventions at Orlando, Melbourne, Calgary, Buenos Aires and Brisbane. They also enjoyed a friendship exchange hosted by District 7470 in New Jersey. Ken and two members from the Rotary Club of Dandenong attended the 30th Anniversary of their sister club Toda Rotary Club in District 2770 Japan.

Ken had a distinguished career spanning 35 years in the Victorian Police Force where he attained the rank of Chief Superintendent before retiring in 1990. A majority of his time was spent in the CIB squads where he was Officer in Charge of all Major Squads including Armed Robbery and Homicide. He then spent a further ten years in Local Laws, firstly in the City of Moorabbin and then the City of Kingston after the mergers.

A keen sports person, Ken has finally settled for golf with the Rossdale Golf Club. After playing cricket for many years he coached a women’s cricket pennant team to three consecutive premierships. He is also on the cricket tribunal for the DDCA.

Ken and his wife Margaret, a primary school teacher, live in Dingley. They have two sons and two daughters and seven grandchildren. They love the theatre, travel and all sport.
