Make Dreams Real
RI President Dong Kurn Lee
DISTRICT 9820 WELCOME
A MESSAGE FROM DG. KEN McDONALD
Rotary Friends in District 9820
World President D.K. Lee has made his theme "Make Dreams Real" so that we in District 9820 might make the dreams of those suffering throughout the world seem possible. We have seen the devastation of the Cyclone in Burma and the Earthquake in China. These are incidents that cannot be prevented, but what we can do is to minimise the impact of these disasters. This is what Rotarians throughout the world do and do very well.
We cannot easily eradicate diseases from our world but if we join together and use our resources wisely and efficiently then the possibility of ending or minimising the scourge is there. We have already seen the impact Rotary has made in the fight against Polio and with further effort this dreadful illness can be eradicated.
District 9820 in the past has been to the fore when supporting The Rotary Foundation in its efforts to bring peace and understanding in the world. This is enhanced by Peace and Ambassadorial Scholarships, and participation in Group Study and Youth Exchange.
Clubs throughout our District are involved in programs that guide and enhance the lives of the young in our communities. Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) and Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA).
Members are not afraid to get down and get dirty as shown in the clean up of part of our District inundated by Floods. Every Club in this district contributes in their own way and we all should be proud of the contributions we have made. We will use our expertise, our resources, our wisdom, our muscle power and our time to "Make Dreams Real" for the not so fortunate.
We are Rotarians in an organization that does great things throughout the world so wear your Rotary pin with pride. Margaret and I look forward to working with you throughout 2008-2009.
